About

Trailerbook was made for people who gave up on languages.

Not for people who have read in the original all their lives. For those who tried, felt stupid after three pages and closed the book.

How it started

English didn’t come easily to me at school. I sat over the textbook, drilled tables and kept feeling that I just wasn’t a language person. Grammar was a set of rules I didn’t understand, and nobody had time to explain them again, in a different way.

The breakthrough didn’t come at school but with TV series and films. Suddenly I wanted to understand, because I wanted to know how the story would end. The story pulled me along even when I didn’t understand everything, and the language came with it.

Then I watched friends trying to read books in a foreign language. They photographed pages, ran them through a translator and soon gave up. The translator translated the page, but taught them nothing. And every mistake only confirmed that they “weren’t cut out for it”.

Yet they didn’t lack talent. They lacked a piece of grammar that nobody had explained properly, and someone patient to sit with them over the book. That is how Trailerbook was born: a reader that explains every word in the context of its sentence, talks about grammar like a human being and reminds you of words just when you start to forget them.

Founder of Trailerbook

Why “Trailerbook”?

Because films brought me to languages. And because every chapter in the app ends with a short teaser for the next one. It’s like a trailer that leaves you needing to know what happens next. That curiosity is the best reason to open the book again tomorrow.

What matters to us

Four things we build on.

01

Patience, not grades

Trailerbook will explain the same thing a tenth time and never make you feel you “should know it by now”. A mistake is part of learning, not a failure.

02

Serious grammar, human tone

Knowing what a word means is not enough. We want you to understand why it has this particular form. That’s why we explain in your language, clearly and at your level.

03

Story first

You learn from books you want to finish, not from sentences about where the station is. Motivation comes from the story, not from badges.

04

Calm and privacy

No ads, no selling of data, at most one gentle reminder a day. Reading should be time for you, not another app fighting for your attention.

Where we are now

The app is ready and heading to Google Play.
